CONVERSIONS
INTRODUCTION:
In order to assure flexibility in the application of all P.E.C. models and to realize fully the
versatility of P.E.C. Equipment, this brochure has been prepared on the basis of established 35mm
standards, devoting this section, "CONVERSIONS", to the individual modifications required by the
respective new sound and projection techniques. The following summaries of items are in addition
to the basic equipment listed respectively under Sections "3500", "2810", "10" and "12000", which
must be either existing or ordered. Equipment and accessories for the reproduction of the fourth,
effects magnetic sound track may, of course, be considered in all instances optional in the
interest of economy.
For a given light source, properly adjusted, it may be generally observed that to produce a picture
of brilliance similar to that enjoyed with standard projection, the projected picture width from
Cinemascope optical film (1:2.33 screen) or from Cinemascope magnetic film (1:2.55 screen) may be
increased by 25% and the projected picture width from Superscope film (1:2 screen) may be in-
creased by 33-1/3%.
NON-ANAMORPHIC VISTAVISION FILM (1:1.85)
FOR MODELS "3500", "2810", "10", and "12000"
For non-anamorphic Vistavision film, required for each projector are:
1 - #2249W - .440" x .825" 1:1.85 Aperture Plate
1 - * - Series II, f1.9 Coated, six-element Projection Lens of
selected focal length
For exact lens specification see Lens Chart on Page 29 and Lens List on Page 14. Precaution must
be taken that the light source be consistent with the picture width selected, screen condition,
local economy, and minimum acceptable picture brilliance.
CINEMASCOPE FILM WITH CONVENTIONAL OPTICAL SOUND TRACK (1:2.33)
FOR MODELS "3500", "2810", "10" and "12000"
Required for each projector are:
1 - #2249CO - .715 x .839" Aperture Plate (1:2.33 ratio)
OR
1 - #2249UC - .715" x .715" Aperture Plate (1:2 ratio)
1 - * - Series II, f1.9 Coated, six-element Projection Lens of selected focal length
1 - * - Anamorphic Lens with supports, as selected (See Page 32)
Usually an objective lens of best quality but of a slightly longer focal length is required. See
Lens Chart on Page 29 and Lens List on Page 14 for the proper focal length objective lens for use
in conjunction with the anamorphic lens. Careful consideration should be given to the possible
necessity of physical coupling between the objective and the anamorphic and to the preferred
auxiliary support for the anamorphic lens, the type and mounting of which support varies with the
anamorphic selected. In general, these supports are readily attached to the flat front surface
of the projector case of all P.E.C. models. (See Equipment Price List on Page 32 for Anamorphic
Lens.)
CINEMASCOPE FILM UTILIZING FOUR MAGNETIC SOUND TRACKS - MODEL "2810"
(See Illustration on Page 10.)
For a projected picture of acceptable brilliance on a screen of excellent quality and condition,
the "2810" may be applied to produce a projected picture size of up to 6.87' x 17.5' (1:2.55)
utilizing the #2249CM aperture (.715" x .912"); in the event that this ratio is too severe for a
given installation, the #2249UC aperture (.715" x .715") may be utilized to produce a projected
picture of acceptable brilliance up to 9.3' x 18.6' (1:2); the higher efficiency of the square
#2249UC aperture and the optical amendments in the projector to utilize to full advantage the
square aperture, permits these attractive widths, where such width must be a premium considera-
tion, and where some compromise with picture brilliance is permissible. If additional light is
required, see "CONVERSIONS" under "2810" on Page 14 for components required to convert the Model
"2810" to Type "10" which accommodates arc-light source.
The following are the items required to convert 2 "2810" projectors and sound system listed on
Page 12 to accommodate Cinemascope film with 4 track magnetic stereophonic sound:
